What is the CVI assessment?
Know what drives every decision
Every person is wired with a unique way of thinking, deciding and creating value. The Core Values Index™, developed by Taylor Protocols, measures that hardwiring — the part of you that doesn’t change and can’t be faked.
Most assessments describe behavior or personality. The CVI looks underneath, at core motivation: how you naturally engage the world and what energizes or drains you. With a Certified CVI™ Coach, those insights become clearer communication, healthier teams and better decisions — wherever there are people.
Ready to see
how you’re wired?
Watch: the Core Values Index in 2:42. Why smart people clash, the four core energies, what each one looks like under pressure — and how to give every person the message they can actually hear.
The four core energies
Builder. Merchant.
Innovator. Banker.
Everyone carries all four core values — Power, Love, Wisdom and Knowledge — in different proportions. Most people lead with one or two. Pick an energy to see what drives it, how it communicates and how to lead it well.
Make it happen.
Builders are wired for action, results and decisive leadership. They see what needs to be done and move — often before everyone else has finished talking.
Strengths
- Decisive under pressure
- Results- and goal-focused
- Takes ownership and charge
- Courage to make hard calls
How they communicate
Direct, brief and bottom-line. They want the point first and the details only if they ask.
What drains them
Indecision, slow processes, micromanagement and meetings that end without an outcome.
How to lead them
Give clear goals and real authority, then get out of the way. Be direct, keep it short and recognize the results they deliver.
Connect people to a vision.
Merchants are wired for relationships, inspiration and the big picture. They create value by bringing people together around what could be.
Strengths
- Builds trust and rapport fast
- Inspires and persuades
- Sees the vision and the future
- Reads people and the room
How they communicate
Warm, personal and story-driven. They think out loud and want to know how an idea affects people.
What drains them
Isolation, cold or impersonal environments, unresolved tension and feeling unappreciated.
How to lead them
Connect personally first and share the why. Give them people-facing roles and room to inspire — and help them with follow-through.
Solve the problem. Find a better way.
Innovators are wired to understand how things work and to improve them. They create value through ideas, insight and solving problems others can’t.
Strengths
- Diagnoses root causes
- Creative, original ideas
- Sees patterns and connections
- Improves systems and processes
How they communicate
Curious and question-driven. They want the reasoning behind a decision and like to explore an idea before committing.
What drains them
Being rushed, “because I said so,” repetitive work with no room to improve it, and having ideas dismissed.
How to lead them
Bring them problems, not just tasks. Give them time to think, ask for their ideas and explain the logic behind decisions.
Get it right. Protect what works.
Bankers are wired for information, accuracy and planning. They create value by gathering knowledge, organizing it and making sure decisions are sound.
Strengths
- Accurate and thorough
- Organized planner
- Reliable with data and details
- Protects resources and stability
How they communicate
Precise and factual. They prefer clear expectations, written information and time to review before deciding.
What drains them
Chaos, vague answers, last-minute changes and pressure to decide without enough information.
How to lead them
Set clear expectations and plan ahead. Share the information, honor their need to verify and give them time to do it right.
Everyone has all fourYour CVI profile shows how much of each energy you carry — not a single box you fit in.
For individuals, couples & communities
Clarity for your own life, too
The CVI isn’t only for companies. Understanding your own hardwiring changes how you choose work, relate to people and make decisions.
Career clarity
See the kind of work that energizes you and the roles that drain you, so your next career move fits how you’re actually wired.
Relationships
Understand why the people closest to you think and react differently — and how to communicate so they actually hear you.
Decision-making
Recognize your natural decision patterns, where they serve you and where it pays to slow down and borrow another energy’s strengths.
Where CVI coaching works
Wherever there are people
Every decision, conflict and breakthrough starts with how people are wired — in a boardroom, a home, a church or a courtroom.
Workplaces
In any organization, performance depends on understanding people. CVI coaching helps teams build stronger communication, reduce friction and align leadership around their natural strengths. By uncovering how each person is wired to create value, we help companies place the right people in the right roles, build trust across departments and establish clarity that drives results.

Core Values Index™ questions
Straight answers about the CVI assessment and coaching. Don’t see yours? Contact us.
What is the Core Values Index™ (CVI)?
The Core Values Index™ is an assessment developed by Taylor Protocols that identifies your innate core values across four energies: Builder (Power), Merchant (Love), Innovator (Wisdom) and Banker (Knowledge). It shows how you are wired to create value, communicate, make decisions and handle conflict.
Is the CVI a personality test?
Not in the usual sense. Personality and behavioral assessments describe how you tend to act, which can shift with your role, stress or environment. The CVI is designed to measure your core values — the motivation underneath your behavior — which is why your results are expected to stay consistent over time.
How accurate is the CVI?
Taylor Protocols reports a 97.7% repeatability rate, meaning people who retake the assessment tend to get the same result. Like any assessment, it’s most useful when a certified coach helps you interpret it in context.
What is in a CVI report?
Your personalized CVI report explains your top core values, how they interact, your strengths, conflict tendencies and ideal work environments, along with practical tips for communication, relationships and growth based on your wiring.
Who created the Core Values Index™?
The CVI was developed by Taylor Protocols. Hardwired Coaching and AdaptExec bring its insights to individuals, teams and organizations through certified CVI™ coaching.
